EXCLUSIVE: Amanda Eberle on the Launch of WAVIT

WAVIT CODE Interview

Women in AV/IT (WAVIT) officially launched on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2022. Founded by and for women, the group’s primary purpose is to strive for gender equality in the AV/IT industries and recruit and retain women in the industry.

We sat down with Amanda Eberle, one of the organization’s founders and general manager at AV Chicago, to get an exclusive look at the new organization and its plans.

LAVNCH [CODE]: How did the idea for Women in AV/IT come about?

AMANDA EBERLE: A group of like-minded and amazing women came together with the goal of elevating and empowering women in the AV and IT industries. Over the years, I’ve worked closely with each of the board members on various initiatives and projects, and I’m excited for all of us to be co-creating this new group together.

LAVNCH [CODE]: Why is WAVIT’s mission and why are you personally passionate about it?

AE: Officially, our mission is to create a network that supports and empowers women in professional AV and IT. What does that actually mean? We aim to support women in any way that makes them feel safer, more comfortable, and more confident.

LAVNCH [CODE]: What are some goals the organization has for its first year and how do you plan to accomplish them?

AE: We want to come out of the gate strong and our goals are lofty. We will place a major emphasis on education, mentorship, and establishing career pathways for retaining women in the industry. We plan to create these pathways through our Ripple Effect Job Board, our mentorship program, and by partnering with like-minded organizations, manufacturers, and media outlets like LAVNCH [CODE]. If you’re looking to partner with us or you’re interested in sponsorship opportunities, you can reach out to Susan Wilhite at Susan.Wilhite@snapone.com.

LAVNCH [CODE]: How can people get involved with WAVIT?

AE: Easy! You can reach out to me at aboyer@avchicago.com and I can help you get started. Alternatively, you can check out our website—womeninavit.org—to learn more about joining, volunteering, etc.

LAVNCH [CODE]: Is WAVIT exclusive to women or is it also open to men and non-binary people?

AE: We want to be as inclusive as possible—everyone is welcome at WAVIT! The board recognizes that not everyone feels comfortable sharing their gender identities; we will never require anyone to provide their gender identity.

LAVNCH [CODE]:Anything else you’d like to add?

AE: I’m excited to get to work with this incredible group and I hope you’ll join us in turning ripples into waves.
