ARwall to Debut ARFX StudioBox at NAB Show 2023

At NAB Show 2023 in the Indie VP Booth C6650, ARwall will introduce ARFX StudioBox, a turnkey solution designed to enable professional filmmakers and solo creators to get started in virtual production.

The result of a seven year development process, ARFX StudioBox and the ARFX App seamlessly integrate with smart devices—currently with iOS and Android coming soon—without the need for additional tracking hardware. Instead, creators can use their existing mobile devices, with TVs or projectors as backdrops, to create in-camera extended reality (XR) illusions that previously took professional experience and gear to achieve.

ARFX StudioBox consolidates every piece of the virtual production puzzle into one place, enabling filmmakers to customize their color, lighting, and camera settings in a matter of minutes—with no in-depth coding, game engine, or 3D design experience required. Instead, creators choose from a marketplace of professionally designed and lit scenes integrated into the app, with curated backdrop vistas, a powerful color lab, and many unique filmmaking “cheat” tools, so users can always get the right shot. It’s like an entire studio’s backlot is available for filmmakers to shoot on, according to the company.

Canon will host hands-on ARFX Lens demos with its C300 Mark III and C500 Mark II cameras. Guests will have the opportunity to experiment with this plug-and-play integration that requires no gears, no lens mapping, no calibration, and no physical lens encoding. Instead, the new ARFX Comp Pro Plugin for UE5 receives lens data directly from the lens serial port, a proprietary innovation of Canon and ARwall. Currently, the solution supports the Canon 18-80mm EF 5-Pin Modified and the Canon 17-120 EF/PL lenses. This can be seen in Booth C3825.

“We invite everyone to visit our booth at NAB Show and experience the ARFX Lens firsthand,” says Jocelyn Hsu, chief product officer and co-founder of ARwall. “This innovative solution, co-created by Canon and ARwall, offers filmmakers a superior lens emulation option, freeing them from the burden of setup times that take 30 to 60 minutes with physical lens mapping. Instead, they plug and shoot, allowing them to focus on the storytelling.”

ARwall also announced its official partnership with HTC Vive Mars and Antilatency, acting as an official reseller for both camera tracking technologies. Through these new partnerships, ARwall says it continues to strive towards making virtual production more affordable to filmmakers, bringing a new level of quality to this type of content.

“We are always seeking new and innovative ways to enhance the Virtual Production experience,” concluded Rene Amador, CEO and co-founder of ARwall. “With the announcement of ARFX StudioBox, and our partnerships with Vive and Antilatency, we can offer creators of every level an opportunity to start working with XR in no time. Whether you’re a professional filmmaker looking to get started with the tech, or you just want a great Zoom backdrop, you can trust we’ll have a solution.”

NAB Show attendees can take advantage of an exclusive offer to pre-order ARFX StudioBox at a discounted price.
