Daktronics has announced the winners of its annual Sign Design Contest, which highlighted extraordinary creativity and exceptional craftsmanship across three categories. La Crosse Sign Group developed this striking sign for Upper Room, a house of worship in Preston, MN. The 6mm high-resolution, full-color GT6x display integrates elements of the building’s architecture while providing the ability to easily share clear, dynamic content with viewers.

“Our professional sales team does a great job listening to our clients to fully understand their needs, while promoting our reputation for creative design, quality construction, stellar installation, and service,” said Jeff Brezinka, sign consultant for La Crosse Sign Group.

Bismarck Sign Company needed to provide a display that attracts attention from more than 500 yards off the highway, where the Sky Dancer Casino & Resort is located.

“Our designer had a free hand with this project and truly excelled,” said Bismarck Sign Company co-founder Wayne Munson. “The sign stands 36 feet tall with a width of 21 feet at its widest point. It features a 13 x 12 foot Sky Dancer feather-shaped cabinet with a flexible face, alongside a shaped cabinet with modified acrylic for the Sky Dancer Casino & Resort lettering. A distinctive element is the LED lighting in the pole covers, which can change colors in various sequences and directions.”

Bismarck Sign Company has designed many signs for this customer at four different locations, resulting in a strong and trusting relationship. They worked with Daktronics to determine how to optimize visibility, opting for a 10mm GT6x 288×540 display that may be viewed from a great distance or close-up.

“With a clear view along the highway and no obstructions, this display will be visible from over a mile away, providing excellent impact and reach,” said Munson.

‘Other’ Category Winner: Facility Solutions Group (FSG)—City of Irving, TX

The City of Irving needed an exterior-rated, pedestrian-oriented LCD display. FSG turned to Daktronics for a customizable kiosk that could be controlled by Venus Control Suite, the intuitive, cloud-based control system for LED and LCD digital displays.

“Most digital kiosks are not customizable,“ explained Andrew Chapman, FSG signs and branding specialist. “With Daktronics, we were able to source an LCD screen that we could insert into a kiosk we built to the customer’s desire, with their city logo and other messaging.”

The display needed to withstand extreme Texas heat, with the internal temperatures inside sign cabinets regularly exceeding 120° F in the summers. Daktronics and LG were able to offer a product with the necessary warranty and temperature ratings.

Chapman said, “After extensive vetting of this product, FSG moved forward with Daktronics and have had very positive results and feedback.”
