XR Exec Talks with Immersal

Name: Matias Koski
Title: CEO
Company: Immersal
LAVNCH [CODE]: We know your title, but what do you actually do at Immersal?
MATIAS KOSKI: My responsibilities as Immersal’s CEO are wide-ranging. I oversee our strategic vision and ensure that we are moving towards our objectives. I collaborate closely with our incredible team to push the limits of our Visual Positioning System (VPS) technology. This includes managing the creation of new products, interacting with partners and customers, and ensuring our financial stability, among other things. To put it briefly, my responsibility is to make sure Immersal keeps growing and innovating in the augmented reality (AR) market.
LAVNCH [CODE]: In your opinion, what is the most exciting thing about extended reality?
MK: The possibility for extended reality (XR) to radically alter how humans interact with the outside world is what excites me the most. XR produces immersive experiences that can improve daily life, work, education, and entertainment. The line dividing the digital and physical worlds are getting blurrier every day.
I can’t wait for the normal AR glasses to become a reality, so we don’t need to wear those bulky glasses to experience the new real world.
LAVNCH [CODE]: Where do you see the XR market heading in the next year?
MK: I see the XR market growing and maturing in the next year. I can see increased usage across a range of sectors—including manufacturing, healthcare, fan engagement, indoor navigation, retail, and military. The tech is becoming more widely available and reasonably priced, which I believe will make the integration with our daily lives much simpler. I can also see that AR and artificial intelligence (AI) will work together more often enhancing the realism and intuitiveness of XR experiences. Hopefully, those normal glasses will start becoming available in 2025?
LAVNCH [CODE]: What new XR products and services are on the horizon for Immersal?
MK: We’re constantly innovating to push the limits of what’s possible with our VPS technology. We have some exciting new products and services in the pipeline. We’re working on enhancing our AR cloud capabilities to provide even more precise and reliable spatial mapping. This will enable developers to create more complex and interactive AR experiences.
One particular product that fascinates me is our newly launched WebAR. We initially thought that it would be mainly used for indoor navigation, however, our customers have brought it to another level, some are doing adverts and some are even doing sports applications that run on the web browsers!
It’s our way to overcome the barrier we had from people that don’t want to download an App just to have an AR experience, now they can just scan a QR code, and done!
LAVNCH [CODE]: Anything else you’d like to add?
MK: I’d like to add that even though AR, XR, and mixed reality (MR) is the future, we still have a lot of people who are not familiar with the endless possibilities they can provide. So please, join me, I mean us, and help show the world all the cool things that we’ve all already done with immersive technology. We do have a series of short videos about immersive tech, and everyone with a cool AR/XR experience is welcome to be a guest in our podcast, even if they have never tried Immersal.
If you have something cool, we’d like to promote it for free! Get in touch with May Masson, head of developers community, via LinkedIn and she can tell you more about it.
