What Happened at InfoComm 2024

InfoComm 2024, held earlier this month at the Las Vegas Convention Center, highlighted transformative technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual production, and featured a vibrant lineup of events, educational sessions, and networking opportunities.

“There are so many layers to InfoComm, which allows each participant to select a unique path. Professional development, technology demonstrations, networking, and experiential AV at sites around Las Vegas—it was all here in one place for a week,” said David Labuskes, CTS, CEO of AVIXA, when summarizing the 2024 show. “InfoComm is a high-energy, busy week for thousands of people that sparks innovations, creates connections, and makes lasting memories.”

AI at InfoComm 2024

AI was an important part of this year’s show. At InfoComm 2024, AVIXA debuted AVA AI, powered by Open AI, at InfoComm to help attendees navigate the show floor, education sessions, events, transportation, and more. AVA AI was built by the AVIXA IT department off OpenAI’s large language model and integrated into the show’s official app.

For the first time, the InfoComm show floor featured the “AI Experience”, an area where attendees could see presentations from industry experts, see AI demos from exhibitors like KUDO, and take pictures in the Generative AI Photobooth Kiosk.

Joe Pham, chairman and CEO of QSC/Q-SYS, presented the keynote “Everything Has Changed: AV’s Infinite Potential in an Exponential Age” at the 2024 show in Las Vegas. Pham spoke to a room of more than 600 attendees about the massive opportunity AI brings to the ProAV industry.

“By seamlessly integrating AI with the technologies of sight and sound, AV holds the power to generate unparalleled value, drive transformative outcomes through data-driven insights, and ultimately cultivate more meaningful human connections in a world increasingly marked by disconnection,” said Pham during his keynote.

On the show floor, companies exhibited AI solutions for various industry segments. This was especially prevalent in the Trailblazers Zone, an area for innovative first-time InfoComm exhibitors. XY Sense, NodesNow, and more all showed off their AI solutions.

On the rest of the show floor, there were plenty of examples of AI used in UCC applications. Insta360, for example, launched its Insta360 Connect dual-camera AI video bar at the show. The dual-camera system delivers 4K video with a wide-angle cam and a telephoto gimbal camera, enhanced by AI super-resolution for detailed close-ups. Insta360 Connect’s speaker tracking, powered by voiceprint and face recognition, ensures accurate and dynamic participant tracking—even in challenging conditions.

AI was also prominent in digital signage applications. Korbyt demonstrated the new AI-driven features to help businesses, universities, and other organizations captivate audiences with unified, on-brand messages on any screen, anywhere.

Additionally, AI was seen from companies who work with both ProAV and security integrators. Earlier this year, AtlasIED invested in IntelliSee, an AI risk-mitigation platform.

The innovations showcased at this year’s show highlight the transformative potential of AI in enhancing user experiences, optimizing operational efficiency, and driving creative possibilities. As the industry continues to evolve, emerging tech pros should be prepared for the profound impact AI will have on the ProAV industry.

Immersive Experiences at InfoComm 2024

Immersive experiences can be hard to recreate on a show floor but companies did a great job of doing so at InfoComm 2024.

Igloo Vision created not one, not two, but three immersive spaces spread out across the exhibit hall. The first space was in the company’s own booth and featured an open-fronted immersive space with floor projection provided by Christie. In the West Hall, Igloo Vision had one experience in the Panasonic booth and another in the Fujifilm booth.

In addition to the floor projection experience from Christie, the company also showcased how its MicroTiles LED can be used for immersive experiences.

Something Corporate, a fixture of the early 2000s alt-rock scene, used the Christie MicroTiles LED on a custom-wrapped piano.

Created in partnership with Something Corporate and Procraft Media, the band required an LED solution that could encompass as much of the piano as possible and be bright enough to be seen during outdoor, daytime performances.

The band actually performed in the Christie booth on Wednesday and Thursday so attendees were treated to musical stylings as they saw the piano in action.

Ahead of the show, PixelFLEX and Podium One Racing partnered to create an immersive race car driving simulation experience for both professional racers and esports enthusiasts. While attendees needed to register ahead of time, plenty of InfoComm 2024 showgoers got to experience the state-of-the-art dvLED driving simulator.

In addition to the flashy projection and video walls, there were plenty of behind-the-scenes products showcased for immersive experiences. For example, Realmotion shared its real-time media ecosystem, Realmotion Engine,

Realmotion Engine is a spatial computing software platform built by game engine developers to handle both dynamic, interactive elements in real-time as well as linear video content. Integrated with a range of commercial-grade sensors and content creation platforms.

The technologies showcased at InfoComm 2024 definitely demonstrated the potential for creating engaging and interactive environments. From advanced projection mapping to spatial audio systems and more, these solutions are transforming how audiences engage with digital content. As the boundaries of immersion continue to expand, the breakthroughs presented at InfoComm 2024 underscore a future where technology and imagination blend seamlessly to create unparalleled sensory experiences.

Networking: The Highlight of InfoComm 2024

As always, #AVTweeps report that spending time with current connections and making new ones was their favorite part of InfoComm 2024.

Once again, the Peerless-AV event was the most-talked-about event at InfoComm. This year’s event featured a “Zen Den” experience, guest DJs, interactive experiences, and more.

“Being in the AV industry, we could not have chosen a better venue than Zouk for our partner event. Displaying targeted content on the multitude of dvLED screens inside and out helped curate the guests’ experience and is a prime example of how digital signage can enhance and customize the environment in a way that printed signs simply cannot,” said Carrie McKenzie-Bush, director of marketing and communications at Peerless-AV.

“Our sponsors are as always the best part of the event, and this year with their enthusiasm in themed outfits and decorated cabanas, they took the event to an even higher level,” added McKenzie-Bush. “It’s the camaraderie and human interactions that make our industry so strong, and really why the Peerless-AV partner event is so well attended year after year. Its nice to loosen up and get a little silly with your industry buddies during the long trade show week of meetings and educational session.”

At the event, Peerless-AV also presented Swim With Purpose—a charitable fundraiser aiming to raise $1M to restore the indoor aquatic facility at Kentucky State University’s William Exum Center—with a check for $25,000. The company donated $100 for every 75-in. Neptune Partial Sun Outdoor Smart TV sold with a guarantee of up to $25K.

On Thursday morning at the show, over 350 AV pros gathered for the 10th Annual AVIXA Women’s Council Breakfast. Attendees enjoyed the most important meal of the day while connecting with their peers and listening to the keynote from Danielle Feinberg.

Feinberg, visual effects supervisor at Pixar Animation Studios, shared stories from her more than 25-year career at Pixar, including being a part of the studio’s first all-female leadership team for the film Turning Red.

Another popular event was XUSC’s annual event. The Buzz & Bullseyes Digital Signage Mixer, which was held in conjunction with Sixteen:Nine, sold out shortly after registration opened—a testament to the event’s popularity.

Held at Flight Club in the Venetian, the event offered AV professionals a chance to connect in a low-key setting filled with food, beverages, conversations, and darts.

“The XUSC event offers the digital signage community a place to catch up with old friends and make new ones,” said Bryan Meszaros, CEO and founder of OpenEye Global and founder of the XUSC events. “This year’s event at Flight Club was no different. Digital signage pros were able to chat, play darts, and just enjoy each other’s company in relaxed setting. Thanks to everyone who came out and a special shout-out to our sponsors who made the event possible!”

Networking is a pivotal component of any show and InfoComm 2024 provided opportunities to connect, exchange ideas, and forge valuable partnerships. According to show attendees, these interactions fostered professional growth but also sparked friendships and new business ventures.

See you at InfoComm 2025!

To wrap up this year’s show, Rochelle Richardson, former senior vice president of expositions and events, AVIXA concluded: “There are so many elements that go into putting on a show the size of InfoComm—presenters, education partners, exhibiting companies, sponsors, and venues. The collaboration of thousands of people makes this show possible. Thank you to everyone who made InfoComm 2024 a special week.”

InfoComm 2025 is set to take place next June in Orlando, FL. Educational sessions will be held June 7-13 and the exhibit hall will be open June 11-13.
